The Colitag P/A Water Test Kit uses an EPA-approved selective and differential medium to detect total coliforms and E. coli in watersamples in 16-48 hours. A 100 mL water sample is mixed with medium, followed by incubation at 35ºC for 24 ± 2 hours. If coliform bacteria are present, the medium changes color from near colorless to a vibrant yellow. In addition, if any E. coli are present, a bright blue fluorescence is seen when the sample is subjected to UV light.   Colitag detects enzymes characteristic of E. coli and the coliform groups.
